There are certain groups of persons who can submit the application for registration of a copyright.
The first is the author, defined u/s 2(d) of the Copyright Act, 1957, who originally created the work or if the work is carried during the course of employment, then the employer.
Secondly, the owner of an exclusive rights can be granted right of control, use, distribution, reproduce copies, right of alteration, etc by the copyright law and thus, is allowed to register for a copyright,
Thirdly, the claimant of the copyright which includes author or the organization or an individual who procured the right of ownership from against by way of a written contract.
Lastly, an authorized agent acting on behalf of an author, claimant of a copyright or an owner of an exclusive right.
Moreover, there is no age limit for obtaining copyright and minor can also ask for a copyright. All such persons, can register their work in the Registrar of Copyrights (Copyright Office) located in New Delhi.
